This gamecode will be included with the release, and will allow anyone to mod it, and because it is entirely serverside you can use it on your servers even if the clients do not have your mod. ![]() Nexuiz will also use the Quake1 game code language, called QuakeC, which makes modding the gameplay of the game extremely easy. Because Nexuiz is based on the Quake1 engine, its source code along with its content is entirely GPL. A few of Darkplaces main features are Quake3bsp support, realtime lighting and shadowing, new particle effects, advanced menu system, and Md3/Md2 model support. The darkplaces engine is an advanced Quake1 engine developed mainly by Forest "LordHavoc" Hale, who has been working with the Quake1 engine for many years. Nexuiz is based on the Darkplaces engine, built on OpenGL technology. We hope this will support the free game community, and encourage more GPL projects. This is a first for any large game project of its type. Meaning, it is entirely free and any of it can be used in other free projects, even if modified. With an advanced UI, the user can select between 15 different player models to use, with an average of two skins for each, and can connect to our master server to play people from all over the world. It uses HFX textures by Evil Lair, and currently has 27 maps to frag in. The purpose of the game is to bring deathmatch back to the basics, with perfect weapon balancing and fast paced action, keeping itself away from the current trend of realistic shooters. It is a 3d deathmatch game made entirely over the internet. Gameplay Videos Nexuiz 2.Nexuiz has been in development for close to 5 years by a team of amateur developers lead by Lee Vermeulen. This includes all new GUI graphics elements, as well as reflective water and improved particles. On February 29, 2008, nearly three years after the initial release, version 2.4 was released and brought major improvements to both the GUI and the graphics engine. Development continued after the initial release, with 1.1 released soon after, 1.5 released February 14, 2006, 2.0 released Jand 2.1 September 9, 2006. After four years of development with no budget, Nexuiz 1.0 was released on May 31, 2005, completely under the GNU GPL, and by the end of June had over a quarter million downloads. The original design called for a simple deathmatch project with a few levels and one character model to be released the next summer. Soon afterward the project moved to the DarkPlaces Quake engine created by Forest Hale, who later also joined the project. Nexuiz development started as a Quake modification in the summer of 2001 by Lee Vermeulen. Currently there are a few custom mods and maps used. Nexuiz supports most Quake modifications (although with varying functionality). It can also support new gametypes, or whole conversions quickly applied to it (much like Quake). Nexuiz is primarily multiplayer (though it includes a full single-player campaign, which allows one to play through the various multiplayer game types and maps with bots), and allows for hosting and joining of games. All these effects can be turned off to make the game run on older hardware. The graphics in Nexuiz use coronas, the bloom shader effect, Realtime World and Dynamic Lighting and shadowing, shaders (with OpenGL 2.0), offset mapping, and High dynamic range rendering. Nexuiz is a first-person shooter with nine weapons, 24 official maps and over 240 community created maps, as well as 15 player models.
